Say hi to 'Wera'

We want to personally introduce 'Wera' and share with you what inspired us to create such a fun, brightly coloured versatile girl's dress.

'Wera' ready to wear

When we were growing up our Grandmothers were ever so crafty. If Mazzy's Nonna wasn't crocheting, she was knitting, making pasta or pottering in the garden while telling stories of how life was back in Italy. Her hands were always busy. Nicola's, Babcia, would share her stories of the motherland of Poland while she was busy sewing for all the family from her suitcase of patterns. If she couldn't be found behind the sewing machine, she would be in the kitchen whipping up Polish feasts, or tending to her garden in New Zealand.

So from an early age we were both inspired to create and make things that were individual, and that would last through the years, to pass onto the next generation.

'Wera' was inspired from one of Babcia’s vintage patterns from the 1970’s. We loved the simplicity and really wanted this pattern to be translated into the modern world. All of Babcia's grandchildren had worn this style dress, so we knew that it had tried and tested design. That's where we came onto the scene - our take on this classic was to make it reversible, and adjustable and we also gave the piece longevity. 'Wera' can also be worn as a tunic top as the child gets older and grows taller. So with one item we have created two dresses, and two tunic tops...now that's modern for you!

We hope you love 'Wera' as much as we do!

Word of the day: Versatility

Definition of versatile
adjective
  • 1 able to adapt or be adapted to many different functions or activities
  • 2 archaic changeable; inconstant.

What is better than one item of clothing? ........an item of clothing that can transform into another that's what!

Kids grow up so fast and before you know it they have gone from crawling, to walking, to running. It only seems right to look for clothes that will see them through all the stages. However, the current market doesn't seem to cater for this functionality.

That's were we come in. We saw that there was a gap in the market for clothing that grows with the child, rather than something that they grew out of in a few months time.
The main design points that we try to incorporate into our clothing are:
  • Reversible - even as adults we have all had that moment when we have spilt something and had to change our whole outfit adding items to the washing pile. With kids you try to reduce the amount of washing you have to do. By taking the idea of reversibility, this way you can simply turn it inside out and they can carry on playing.
  • Adjustable - not all children are created equal, in size that is. Which is why incorporating adjustable straps or waistbands allow the right comfortable fit.
Bit of a sneak peek at what we have in the works....

Wera - Reversible toddler summer dress with adjustable straps, also doubles as a tunic when older.

Jasper - Reversible toddler fisherman's pants, with adjustable waist and length (winter and summer weights)

Lola - Reversible toddler dress that doubles as a skirt when they are taller.

Ok we better get back to the sewing machine as these clothes don't make themselves.

Look out for all of these items in our Etsy shop soon.

Little Lane is Born.

Why hello there!

Welcome to the blog of Little Lane.

Little Lane Clothing is something that was born out of love for sewing, all things vintage, and those squishy little things called kids.

Little Lane is a children’s clothing business that designs, manufactures and sells infants and toddlers clothing on a made to order basis. The underlying foundation of the Little Lane line is based upon the principle of versatility – adjustable, reversible and multipurpose children’s clothing that can see them through the years.

Over the past couple of years I was a busy bee churning out outfits for my little cousins and friends who were popping out kids like it was no tomorrow, when a comment over a vino between Maz and I sparked an idea. We had always wanted to turn our hands to something crafty on the side of our mundane corporate lives. Therefore, Little Lane was born.

It was a match made in heaven, as Maz is a vintage connoisseur and avid crafter with a background in marketing, whilst I had grown up wearing clothes my Nana lovingly created and I now take inspiration from the same vintage patterns.

This blog serves as a medium for us to share what inspires us (thanks Nana), what is currently in the works (seeing items in construction), as well as showcasing the finished products. It is also a place for you to provide suggestions and feedback on anything i.e. what styles you would like to see, whether there are any improvements to the fit / fabric / colours, or if you just want to say Hi!

Thanks for stopping by, we look forward to sharing our creations with you.
